Enjoy a trail running experience like no other at the Magalies Monster Trail Run 2025
This year, 2025, the Magalies Monster Trail Run celebrates its 12th anniversary.
Trail Running enthusiasts will be able to experience trail running at its best at the 12th annual Magalies Monster Trail Run. This event will take place on Sunday 1 June 2025 at ATKV Buffelspoort. We hope trail runners of all ages will join us!

Based at the ATKV Buffelspoort resort, (which is located in the magnificent Buffelspoort Valley in the North West Province,) the Magalies Monster Trail Run is accessible to many. As ATKV Buffelspoort is situated less than an hour’s drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, the Magalies Monster is close enough for a fun day out or a weekend away, to escape from the busy city life of Gauteng. The dramatic Magaliesberg Mountain Range and surroundings offer stunning wilderness views and a fabulous feeling of freedom.

The Trail Run includes the best trail running routes on offer in the North West Province. Runners will be treated to a magnificent view of the Buffelspoort Valley, the Magaliesberg and the Buffelspoort Dam.
The Full Marathon: ± 24 km route boosting a 526 m ascent.
This route includes gravel roads, jeep track, bushveld single track and soft sand at some sections. There will also be one or two gully sections to navigate. This Full Marathon is ideal for top trail runners who would like to race each other on a moderate distance trail. The route is also ideal for fit and well-conditioned runners that would like to give trail running a go.
The Half Marathon: ±12 km features a 218 m ascent
This route is designed for the adventurous runner who loves to be outdoors and running in a beautiful natural environment. The route has safe sections but do not rush things when going down the gully. If you are able to run 10 km comfortably on the road, you will enjoy this route that is also for runners that are new to the sport of trail running
The Fun Run: ± 8 km route boosting a 143 m ascent
The Fun Run is a perfect event for younger runners. This route is designed to ensure that young and old participants, enjoy a wonderful trail run in Buffelspoort. It’s perfect for the family to run together, even if you walk the entire way you will still enjoy it
This event takes place the day after the Magalies Monster MTB Classic, and is the perfect way to end a fun, family weekend.
You don’t want to miss this great opportunity. Each participant will receive a medal after completion. Refreshment stations along the route will keep you hydrated, and when you have finished a beer garden, delicious food, coffee and a chill zone awaits you where you can exchange all the war stories!
